چکیده

Cascade is an information reconciliation protocol proposed in the context of secret key agreement in quantum cryptography. This protocol allows removing discrepancies in two partially correlated sequences that belong to distant parties, connected through a public noiseless channel. It is highly interactive, thus requiring a large number of channel communications between the parties to proceed and, although its efficiency is not optimal, it has become the de-facto standard for practical implementations of information reconciliation in quantum key distribution. The aim of this work is to analyze the performance of Cascade, to discuss its strengths, weaknesses and optimization possibilities, comparing with some of the modified versions that have been proposed in the literature. When looking at all design trade-offs, a new view emerges that allows to put forward a number of guidelines and propose near optimal parameters for the practical implementation of Cascade improving performance significantly in comparison with all previous proposals. keywords: quantum key distribution, information reconciliation, two-way reconciliation,

Information Reconciliation Using Reliability in Secret Key Agreement Scheme with ESPAR Antenna

As a countermeasure for eavesdroppers in wireless communications, a secret key agreement scheme using a variable directional antenna called ESPAR antenna was developed. In this scheme, the process of information reconciliation is necessary to correct the discrepancies between the legitimate users’ keys. In this paper, we propose a new information reconciliation protocol using the reliability of...

Problems in application of LDPC codes to information reconciliation in quantum key distribution protocols

The information reconciliation in a quantum key distribution protocol can be studied separately from other steps in the protocol. The problem of information reconciliation can be reduced to that of distributed source coding. Its solution by LDPC codes is reviewed. We list some obstacles preventing the LDPC-based distributed source coding from becoming a more favorable alternative to the Cascade...

Blind reconciliation

Information reconciliation is a crucial procedure in the classical post-processing of quantum key distribution (QKD). Poor reconciliation efficiency, revealing more information than strictly needed, may compromise the maximum attainable distance, while poor performance of the algorithm limits the practical throughput in a QKD device. Historically, reconciliation has been mainly done using close...

Efficient Reconciliation with Rate Adaptive Codes in Quantum Key Distribution

Quantum key distribution (QKD) relies on quantum and classical procedures in order to achieve the growing of a secret random string —the key— known only to the two parties executing the protocol. Limited intrinsic efficiency of the protocol, imperfect devices and eavesdropping produce errors and information leakage from which the set of measured signals —the raw key— must be stripped in order t...

Expeditious Reconciliation for Practical Quantum Key Distribution

The paper proposes algorithmic and environmental modifications to the extant reconciliation algorithms within the BB84 protocol so as to speed up reconciliation and privacy amplification. These algorithms have been known to be a performance bottleneck 1 and can process data at rates that are six times slower than the quantum channel they serve. As improvements in single-photon sources and detec...
